Choose to Challenge

International Women’s Day (IWD) is right around the corner and this year we #ChoosetoChallenge! What exactly is the official IWD 2021 challenge you ask? It’s about each and every one of us doing our part to take a stand against gender bias and inequality. It’s about rising up individually and speaking out! Each time we use our voices, it allows all women to rise up together. We’ve come a long way over the years, but the fight isn’t over yet! We still see inequality throughout our lives, and especially in the workforce.

Here at Anne Mulaire, we are extremely proud to be both a woman-owned and operated business! We pride ourselves in fair, livable wages and look to women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs first when working with outside companies. We have built an amazing team of women to work beside every day and are elated to raise our hands in the fight for equality. As we each #ChooseToChallenge and do our part to be more assertive in the face of injustice, we can also do our part by honouring and celebrating other inspiring women in our industry.  Anne Mulaire would like to give a special shoutout to one of our personal heroes: Orsola de Castro!

Orsola de Castro is a sustainable, upcycling, and fair-wage fashion advocate superhero.  You may have heard of her from the Fashion Revolution movement as she is the Co-founder and Global Creative Director. A trailblazer from the get-go, de Castro started the fashion label From Somewhere in 1997 (1997-2014), which only used pre-consumed and unused waste materials. In addition, she founded Estethica, London Fashion Week’s sustainable section, showcasing emerging designers in the sector. She is a mentor and judge for the Redress Design Award (the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition) and a world-wide ethical and responsible fashion industry activist. Finally, de Castro is now the newly published author of “Loved Clothes Last: How the Joy of Rewearing and Repairing Your Clothes Can Be a Revolutionary Act”. A true fashion revolutionary to say the least!

Andréanne (CEO/Designer), met Orsola de Castro at the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) in January 2020. Here’s her Instagram post about it! CIFF is known for its support of innovation in sustainability. Andréanne had the chance to be immersed into a world of like-minded individuals and collaborate with LEE Jeans Europe where she upcycled her own pair of jeans and attended expert panels, pop-ups and installations co-curated by Orsola de Castro.

In the spirit of International Women’s Day 2021, the Anne Mulaire team has decided to celebrate IWD 2021 all month long and we want you to be a part of it. Please join us by sending us your #ChooseToChallenge photo, with your right hand held high, to our IG account, @annemulaire, to be showcased in our stories! There is no place for complacency. Let all our voices be heard! Today and long into the future.

Merci,

  + the Team
